KEMA 250 and 250-12 Module Sealant

Kema

In the process to mitigate corrosion, coatings are the first line of defense. KEMA 250 and 250-12 Module Sealants are a key product to use when coating repairs are required. KEMA 250 and 250-12 are easy to apply, long lasting and corrosion resistant, which makes it a key product to use in conjunction with cathodic protection. KEMA 250 comes is a double adhesive sided roll that is 4 inches (10 cm) wide and 20 feet (6.1 meters) long. Kema 250-12, while in the same dimensions as the 250, has one adhesive side and a 12-mil polyethylene film bonded to one side, to be used as an outer layer when repairing coatings. The KEMA tapes are made using a macro-polyisobutylene formula that when paired with a rubber adhesive primer (Polyguard 600), can create a strong bond with the pipes surface, minimalizing the potential of corrosion occurring. KEMA products are UV resistant and can resist anaerobic bacteria as well as a wide range or acids, alkali solutions as well as gases.

  • Initial adhesive layer is 250 mils (6.4 mm) thick
  • Rolls come in 4 inch (10 cm) wide by 20 feet (6.1 meters) long
  • Above grade service range -20°F (-29°C) to 249°F (121°C)
  • Below grade service range -20°F (-29°C) to 194°F (90°C)
  • Application range 19°F (-7°C) to 120°F (49°C)
  • KEMA 250 is double sided adhesive
  • KEMA 250-12 is single sided adhesive with a 12-mil polyethylene film bonded to one side
KEMA 250 and 250-12 products can be used when repairing coatings for exothermic welds on pipes or tanks, pipeline girth welds, stainless steel band applications, pipeline rehab coating transitions and general coating repairs to name a few. When applying the KEMA products, first ensure the surface area is clear of debris. Once it is clear, apply Polyguard 600 rubber adhesive primer to the area KEMA is going to be applied to. Once the Polyguard is applied, cut to size a piece of KEMA 250 and evenly apply it to the area, pressing firmly on the coating to smooth over and eliminate any air pockets under the tape. Once thoroughly applied, cut to size and apply a piece of KEMA 250-12 to the area following the same method as KEMA 250, ensuring all air pockets are removed.

When ordering KEMA 250 and 250-12, please indicate the number of rolls of each product you would require to complete the task. Please also consider that Polyguard 600 is the recommended rubber adhesive primer for the application of KEMA products. KEMA 250 and 250-12 are sold in case quantities with four rolls per case. This will allow you to cover up to 26 sq. ft. of exposed area.
